Location: Milwaukee, WI Posted: 04/07/10 Viewed: 140 total Description: Provide assistance to dental students, patients, faculty and staff in the Dental School and provide instruction to dental students and patients in accordance with the Clinic Operations Manual and standards of care in Dentistry. Essential Functions: Provide dental assistance to dental students before, during and after treatment of patients; monitor patient comfort; provide support to faculty and staff in the Dental School. Duties and Responsbilities: Provide dental assistance and instruction to students before, during and after treatment of patients including dental emergencies as per the Clinic Operations Manual. Instruct dental students in four-handed dentistry concepts and practices. Assist dental student and faculty with compliance to record keeping protocols related to the treatment of patients. Maintain and monitor accepted practices and care of dental equipment, instruments and supplies per MUSOD standards, and regulatory group requirements. Assist with the coordination of student activities and evaluation of compliance to practice standards. Distribute, assist and monitor instrument and equipment management and case cart system. Coordinate the repair and maintenance of dental equipment and clinical facilities. Assist with the set-up and monitoring of state and mock clinical dental board exams. Provide back-up support for the group coordinator including answering phones, scheduling appointments and handling patient records and other computer related duties. Attend in-service programs, group and dental assistant meetings and other various committee meetings as required. Perform any and all related duties as required or assigned by the supervisor. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: High School education plus one year dental assistant experience required including knowledge of dental terminology and anatomy; regulator agency requirements; 4-handed dentistry; instrumentation; impression materials and cements; x-ray technology and procedures; sterilization procedures; patient management techniques; and Health-Care Provider CPR. Also requires dexterity, ability to tolerate long periods of bending, standing and walking, strong verbal and written communication skills as well as basic computer skills, excellent customer service and listening skills, discretion, flexibility, ability to work and communicate with people from a diverse population; and the ability to work independently with little supervision and constant interruptions in an environment that can be stressful. Previous experience working in an academic setting and knowledge of Marquette University School of Dentistry policy and procedures helpful.
