Description:
Assists in the implementation of policies and the establishment of procedures for dental services at MWCHC.
Position duties include:

-To establish regular procedures for the adequate care of emergency patients.

-To replace absent dentists or reassign schedules to available dentists.

-To supervise his or her immediate area including all dental personnel.

-To periodically check all dental equipment for maintenance and repair and to requisition the necessary services; to report all major problems to the Dental Director immediately.

-Any person who performs any of the following acts shall be deemed to be practicing dentistry:
A. Diagnoses
B. Prescribes medication;
C. Treats disease, pain, deformity, dificiency, injury or physical condition of the teeth or jaws or associated structures;
D. Extracts teeth;
E. Repairs or fills cavities in teeth or jaws;
F. Fabricates models based upon which a replacement of natural teeth by artificial substances shall be constructed;
G. Furnishes supplies, constructs, alters, reproduces, or repairs any prosthetic dentures, bridges, crowns, appliances, or any other structure to be used or worn in the mouth as a substitute or natural teeth, except on the written work order of a licensed and registered dentist;
H. Places and adjusts such appliances or structures in the human mouth or delivers the same to any person other than the licensed and registered dentist upon whose written order the work was performed;

-Offers to the public by any method to furnish, supply, construct, reproduce, reline, repair, or otherwise process any prosthetic denture, bridge, appliance, or other structure to be worn in the human mouth

-Gives interpretations of dental radiographs

-Administers an anesthetic of any nature in connection with a dental operation

-To perform other duties as assigned

-To perform age specific competency regarding patients

-Responsible for the maintenance of patient confidentiality and adherence to Patient Rights and Responsibilities, as issued in the New Hire Orientation

-Performs all other duties as assigned by management

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

-DDS or DMD degree from an accredited school of dentistry;

-Licensure to practice dentistry in the State of Tennessee and maintained throughout employment.

-Completion of dental internship is preferred.

-Membership in Local, State, or National Dental Association or American Dental Association. To participate in the team conference in the MWCHC Dental Service. The ability to:
A. Adapt to group practice;
B. Institute current practices of preventative dentistry into his or her work;
C. Function in “four-handed” dentistry and control the work of Dental Assistants;
D. Cooperate with all dental personnel;
E. Establish rapport with patients of all income levels;
F. Concentrate the majority of his or her duties toward the functioning of the MWCHC Dental Clinic;
G. Provide quality care while adhering to high professional standards; and
H. Participate in continuing education classes.
