Location: King County, WA Posted: 08/30/08 Viewed: 46 total Description: The Public Health Reserve Corps (PHRC) is a community-based group of local medical and non-medical workers who can serve as volunteers during a public health emergency. The mission of the PHRC is to enhance Public Health’s ability to respond to public health emergencies or disasters to limit injury, illness, suffering and death. When every minute counts, the PHRC will play a major role with: # Setting up, working, and running a temporary field hospital, emergency medical needs shelter, family assistance center, or medication center # Dispensing medications # Administering vaccinations # Providing information and support to the community # Conducting health screenings For more information on the Public Health Reserve Corps, and how you can help, please visit: http://www.metrokc.gov/health/phreservecorps/index.htm Examples of Duties: The Public Health Reserve Corps (PHRC) is seeking Dentist volunteers to assist Public Health – Seattle & King County during an emergency in King County. Dentist volunteers will primarily assist individuals and families during an emergency by providing services in the community such as: # Diagnose and provide dental treatment to patients # Prescribe medications for a variety of oral health conditions # Consult with other health care providers on treatment options and procedures # Document all medications, evaluations, diagnoses, treatments, outcomes, referrals and consultations Dentist volunteers will participate in approximately 8 hours per year in orientation, training, and drills. Continuing education credits will be offered whenever possible during these 8 hours. Qualifications: * A Washington State license to practice dentistry. * Knowledge of: dental procedures, diagnosis, treatment planning, supplies and dental materials; Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Washington; Industrial Safety and Health Act and inspection control guidelines; and treatment planning techniques and principles. * Skill in: using hand- and motor-driven dental instruments and equipment; handling a number of tasks simultaneously; and working with a diverse population. Desired Qualifications: Fluency in another language Additional Information: Volunteers may not be a current employee of King County in any capacity, (Career Service, TLT, STT, or contracted) or with any King County department Volunteers are required by the State of Washington Emergency Worker Program to provide their Driver License number and proof of vehicle insurance. Volunteers receive liability protection and compensation for injury or death through the State of Washington’s Emergency Worker Program during State approved training events and emergency missions. Washington State rules governing the Emergency Worker Program are contained in Chapter 118-04 WAC.
